Where’s the best view in Helsinki? Well, I recently discovered that it’s from the Clarion Hotel Helsinki. I stayed here for four nights and was always amazed when I looked out my window. Taking the glass lift down to reception every morning was one of the highlights of my day.
This hotel, in the heart of Helsinki, is one of the most elegantly designed modern hotels that I have ever stayed in. I know hotel reviews can be boring sometimes, but not this one. This hotel features stunning design and unique facilities which I’m going to tell you all about.
About Clarion Hotel Helsinki
The Clarion Hotel Helsinki is a fairly new hotel, built in late 2016. It has 425 rooms and 16 floors. The hotel is located in the Jätkäsaari district of Helsinki right on the harbour. The tram stops right outside the hotel doors so it’s a great base for exploring the city and, of course, the local Helsinki food scene. The hotel is made up of two towers connected by a glass bridge. A glass lift between the two towers takes you between floors giving you a panorama of the city as you go.
The Rooms at Clarion Hotel Helsinki
I stayed in a superior double room on the 14th floor. My window looked right out over the Helsinki harbour and spanned from floor to ceiling. I could see the ice crack over the Baltic sea in the morning and it was magical. Unlike hotel rooms in most capital cities around the world, this room was spacious.
Each room features an Eames chair. Yeah, I know, it meant nothing to me either. But it’s a very expensive and celebrated Danish design chair. So sit in it, and enjoy it. The glasses are beautifully textured and quirky. My favourite feature was the opalescent tiling in the bathroom. I’m a sucker for anything shiny.
The wifi is strong in the rooms and the bed is incredibly comfortable. I could have spent an entire day just lounging in the room. If you love luxury and great design then the Clarion Hotel Helsinki has THE ROOM for you.
Food & Drink at the Clarion

The breakfast is served in buffet style in the Kitchen & Table restaurant. There’s PLENTY of choice. They have a gluten-free cart for any of you coeliacs out there. My favourite feature is the Ipads that are used for juice selection. Decadent, modern and absolutely unnecessary, but I love them. After all, hotels like this are all about the extra touches.
There is an omelette station as well where the cook will whip you up an omelette of your choosing. The general consensus is that they’re delicious. If you have an early flight a small breakfast is served from 5am in the Living Room Bar.
If it’s a drink you’re after then try the Sky room. This is a bar on the second last floor from the top. It is all glass windows the whole way around so it affords incredible views. This was one of my favourite places to chill in the Clarion Hotel Helsinki. Enjoy a glass of champagne (I prefer a Finnish Lonkero), a small snack or a hand-crafted cocktail while you unwind after a long day of meetings or sight-seeing. It’s frequented by both locals and hotel guests.
Facilities at the Clarion

One of the most stunning features of the Clarion Hotel Helsinki is the heated pool on the rooftop. It’s pretty cold up there, so I’d wear a hat even if you’re getting into the pool. The heated pool has glass on one side and so, like everywhere else in this hotel, it has spectacular views.
There is also a sauna and a gym on the rooftop, so you can work out with a view. Stunning designer lounge chairs covered in sheep skin rugs line the rooftop, perfect for warming up on after a dip. Another fun fact about this hotel – it’s PET-FRIENDLY. So feel free to bring your animal companion, just make sure to let them know first. It costs €25 per night to add a pet to your reservation.
What I Thought

I really enjoyed my stay at the Clarion Hotel Helsinki. The reception staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was great and the drinks were even better. I easily explored the city both on foot and via the tram. I would definitely stay here again and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting Helsinki. I loved all the little touches like the welcome mats saying “Clarion loves you.”. Thanks for the love Clarion, I love you too!
