There are so many types of holidays available at the moment that it’s almost hard to choose. You can have a spa holiday, an all inclusive holiday, a road trip holiday, a cycling holiday, nearly any type of holiday you want you can have! I love trying different types of holidays and travel, BUT of all the different kinds of holidays available, the ones involving adventure activities are my favourite! You can go on an adventure holiday as a family, solo, with a partner, as part of a group, there’s no limit. So why should you try an adventure holiday?
Reasons to Try an Adventure Holiday

Face Your Fears
Adventure holidays are great for helping you to face your fears. I remember standing at the top of a waterfall in Sri Lanka, knowing that I had to abseil down, my mouth feeling like cotton, and my teeth chattering. I was absolutely terrified, but I knew I wanted to do it. I didn’t want to be afraid of it just because I had never done it before. I don’t like fear ruling my life so adventure holidays are a great fit for me. And, my GOD, the adrenaline rush I felt when I put my feet on solid ground at the bottom of the waterfall was incredible! I was so proud of myself, and you just don’t get that kind of feeling from an average sun holiday.
Learn About the World
Adventure holidays take you and catapult you into the world, into the local culture and into all the incredible things that you can do around the world. You will learn SO much on an adventure holiday, especially as most adventure holidays have a local guide who knows everyone and everything in the area.
I remember I did a trip through Peru with G Adventures, I jumped off a yacht into Lake Titicaca, I stayed with a local family, I learnt how to make Pisco Sours, I hiked Machu Picchu and SO MUCH MORE. I learnt about myself, I learnt about the country and the local people. Adventure holidays are often highly educational in between the adrenaline rushes!

A New Perspective
People, out of habit, tend to keep on doing the same things they do at home when they go on holiday. They chill, eat and catch some sun (which is of course important too). The idea of an adventure holiday is to have the kinds of experiences that you can’t fit in around your regular life, to do the things you’ve ALWAYS wanted to do.
If you love the water and have a taste for adventure, take a look at sailing holidays. You’ll be on the water that you normally only get to look at when you’re lying on the beach. You’ll also be far removed from the rest of the world; so not only will you be on an adventure, you’ll be well away from strains and stresses of modern life. Trust me, after an adventure holiday you’ll start seeing the world a little differently. You’ll feel stronger, bolder and more confident.
Building Relationships
An adventure holiday can, for sure, present unique challenges, purely because you’ll be taking a step out of your comfort zone. Indeed, that’s the whole point of this type of getaway! In the process, you’ll find that you’ll grow closer to the people around you every day, even if you didn’t know them at the start of the trip.
I know that I never felt closer to my friend Mike than when he had to scrape leeches off my ass after my victorious waterfall descent, hahaha! If you go on an adventure trip with your family you’ll have a much deeper bond after the trip. If you go on a solo adventure trip you’ll come home with some many new friends. In fact, I met my boyfriend while I was on a kite-surfing adventure holiday.

A TONNE of Fun
You’ll be up and active when you’re on an adventure holiday, but you’ll also be having bags of fun. If you have children, this is a joy to watch. Kids are happy if they’re out in the world and playing with their family. Have the outdoors as your playground, and they’ll never be bored!
If you’re like me and you’ll be travelling solo or with a partner, you’ll still have a tonne of fun. My boyfriend and I had an incredible time running around on glaciers in Canada and New Zealand, taking silly photos and freezing our asses off. We definitely have more fun together when we’re on an active holiday.
Is There Space for Relaxing on
an Adventure Holiday?
Of course, you don’t have to be moving all the time. When you’re in the great outdoors, there’ll always be time to kick back and relax. A lot of adventure holidays will include down time, yoga sessions or spa treatments to take care of you after all the adrenaline/exercise. All in all, these types of holidays will ensure you get the best of all worlds!
I love adventure travel! Everyone should try it once in a while just to push themselves out of their comfort zone a little.
